Would it be allowed to run a little raffle with co-workers, friends, etc to raise some money to help?
To me it would all seem above board, but then I'm pretty liberal about that kind of thing. As long as you say "raising money to cover costs of choir" and not "raising money for choir" people can't say they were tricked or anything.
