If you are wondering what the *%*$& happened to the Dr Sketchy Brisbane Myspace..

Without warning, without reason, and without any reply to our many many many emails, Myspace have deleted our profile.

Yes this is bad - but at Dr Sketchy's we like to see the silver lining in the cloud.. so instead of bitching and moaning about it (though we do reserve the right to mutter horrible horrible swearwords into our cider) we have instead done the following:

We've got our own domain!! www.drsketchybrisbane.com - it links back to our LJ community (which will in the very near future get a SWANKY facelift! Whoo hoooo!)

We ALSO have our very own Flickr group - so you can now upload your sketches etc and we can see them all.. LOVELY!!

In more exciting news.. We have taken note of everyone's feedback, and have taken on board the advice that a room with a BAR would be ideal, and preferably one without lots of stairs to climb.. well, beloved Art Monkeys - your wish is our command! And from Wed 19th September we will be running Dr Sketchys in our own room at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow Hotel in the Valley. We think this will make an AWESOME new venue for Dr Sketchys - with 25+ kinds of beer on tap (and my favourite, Bulmers Cider) along with a range of other food and beverages right there in the room! Our Sat afternoon sessions will be on hold for now until we find an equally awesome venue for the weekend gigs. (Anyone that owns a licensed cafe/bar/space who wants us to visit on the weekends, let us know!!))

We are also running a little competition where you can win free tickets, art stuff and other fabulous prizes - and all you have to do to enter is send us an email completing the following sentence in 25 words or less "I love being an Art Monkey because......" Most amusing/thoughtful/astonishing/worthy answers will win! :-) Feel free to forward the comp to whomever you wish.

We now also have our very own section of the official Dr Sketchy's Bulletin Board! Yes, Brisbane is spelled wrong.. but that doesn't stop us and our shenanigans, oh no!!

If you know anyone else out there who would love to hear about all of this, please do encourage them to email us at drsketchybrisbane@gmail.com so that I can add them to the mailing list, and get them to friend themselves to the Livejournal. All the cool kids are doing it!! www.drsketchybrisbane.com

Passing on a good cause (you know I can't resist)..

Kai is one of the sweetest, smartest kids I know, and if anyone deserves a new computer it's him. So vote please, it'll take no time at all. DOO EEET! :-) :-)

Info from his wonderful, wonderful Mum:

Go vote for Kai and help him win a shiny new HP computer/printer! The competition is run by HP and you don't have to register or sign up for anything or get spammed for voting - just put in a name and email address to help Kai win!

http://h50031.www5.hp.com/campaigns/imagination/site/gallery/?id=299

And if you feel like it pass this on the anyone and everyone you know, the more votes we get the better chance Kai has of winning and you'd absolutely make my little geek boys day :P

Also, a big thankyou to everyone who has already voted and passed this on :)

Suzi Quatro live at The Globe

Suzi Quatro "Unzipped" book launch - with Question & Answer
Saturday 15 September Globe Theatre, 220 Brunswick St Fortitude Valley Tickets $10.00 per person All ages / unlicensed
Doors open 12.30pm for a 1pm start

Quatro has been a huge inspiration for female performers, the tiny girl in a man's world of Rock n Roll, stating that her sex'n'leather image was all her own idea. She sees her own efforts to break the stereotyped image of female performers as useful.."That's the way you make progress, not by shouting and screaming and burning your bra... which now they're sorry they did because everybody's sagging."

A Farewell to False Love

Farewell false love, the oracle of lies,
A mortal foe and enemy to rest,
An envious boy, from whom all cares arise,
A bastard vile, a beast with rage possessed,
A way of error, a temple full of treason,
In all effects contrary unto reason.

A poisoned serpent covered all with flowers,
Mother of sighs, and murderer of repose,
A sea of sorrows whence are drawn such showers
As moisture lend to every grief that grows;
A school of guile, a net of deep deceit,
A gilded hook that holds a poisoned bait.

A fortress foiled, which reason did defend,
A siren song, a fever of the mind,
A maze wherein affection finds no end,
A raging cloud that runs before the wind,
A substance like the shadow of the sun,
A goal of grief from which the wisest run.

A quenchless fire, a nurse of trembling fear,
A path that leads to peril and mishap,
A true retreat of sorrow and despair,
An idle boy that sleeps in pleasure's lap,
A deep mistrust of that which certain seems,
A hope of that which reason doubtful deems.

Sith then thy trains my younger years betrayed,
And for my faith ingratitude I find;
And sith repentance hath my wrongs bewrayed,
Whose course was ever contrary to kind.
False love, desire, and beauty frail, adieu.
Dead is the root whence all these fancies grew.

I want one!!

rPhone combines three delightfully diverse products into one awkward and cumbersome handheld contraption -- a revolutionary steam-powered satellite phone, a stylish French musicbox, and a vibrasonic multi-purpose tool that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike a Sonic Screwdriver. rPhone is the first portable telephone constructed of materials you've come to associate with progressive technology... from its exquisite rosewood paneling to the handsome brass frame, it shouts "This is the 18th century!" and "Gee, this thing sure is heavy!" and "What do you mean it costs $20,000??". Rest assured this is one phone you'll never lose in a pocket (unless you have extremely fancy pants m'lord!) and best of all, rPhone provides an analogue interface that even the simplest of simpletons (like you! m'lord!) can comprehend! No more confusing menu screens or complicated keystrokes, rPhone is built for space pirates on the go!

I don't read gossip magazines.. apart from the occasional flick at a hairdresser or doctor's waiting room which usually serves to remind me WHY I don't read that crap...

I'm fairly immune to celebrity gossip...

But (and there's always a "but" isn't there...).. I read "Go Fug Yourself" every day.

And I think this post pretty much sums up why: http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/go_fug_yourself/2007/06/lydia-fugrst.html

I have no idea who this "celebrity" actually is, but the post is so damn funny and spot-on, I really don't care.

Read it, and laugh.

Oh, and.. Shiny Russian Plate Monsters, OH MY!!
